About
Named after the line where everything changes.
The strandline is where water meets land. In swimrun, that's where races are decided: at every transition, out of the water, onto the rocks, into the next stretch. Registration is a transition too. It's the moment someone who is interested becomes someone who is in. Strandline exists to make that moment clean, on your side of the line.
«Strand» means beach in Swedish, German and Danish, and swimrun began on the Swedish coast. The name also works for trail, triathlon and open water, and for the doors of a conference or a festival.
Why we built it
We drew four lines. All of them broke at “Register”.
It started on a whiteboard. We had built websites and campaigns for a swimrun series, a trail race, a congress and an open-air festival. One evening we drew each of their journeys as a line, from the first ad to the start line.
Four events, four lines. Every one of them broke at the same point: the «Register» button. That is where people left for someone else's platform, someone else's login and someone else's cookies. Next to the break we wrote four questions. Nobody could answer them. Not the organisers, not us, not the platforms they paid for.
The four questions
What we wrote next to the break.
- Whose data is it? The organiser's, on paper. In practice it lived in someone else's system.
- Why is it so complicated? Accounts, menus and fees for things no participant asked for.
- Which campaign sold the entry? A guess, every single time.
- Can we change it? Only when the platform's roadmap said so.
So we stopped patching and built the registration all four of them needed: in the organiser's look, linked from their own website, without accounts, with every entry traced to its source and every record staying with the organiser. One engine, many organisers, each in their own brand.
That line is still in our logo. Wavy up to the dot, where it used to break. Straight after it.
What we believe
Four things we keep.
- Your event, your relationship. The people who enter are your participants, not ours.
- Honest software. We say what Strandline does today and what it doesn't do yet.
- Partners, not replacements. We do registration. Your timing partner does timing.
- Your money never touches ours. From go-live, payments go to your Stripe account. Pilot
Built by PIXELS
A product, not a project.
Strandline is made by PIXELS, a Swiss digital agency registered in Lucerne. PIXELS builds websites, campaigns and digital products, including for conferences and sports events such as the CfC Industry Days in St. Moritz. Strandline is our own product. We build it, host it and support it.
